Junior Jose Cisneros has been named Greene Central’s September Student of the Month by the Greene County Chamber of Commerce.
The Greene County Chamber of Commerce aims to recognize a Student of the Month who is “an outstanding student in some way, either in the classroom, sports, etc. but is also a student that gives back to the community.

The Greene County Chamber of Commerce will be presenting Cisneros with a certificate of award and a $25 Visa gift card.  Cisneros was nominated by Academically/Intellectually Gifted Teacher Donald L. Clark. “Jose is a remarkable young man.  He is one of the best students I’ve taught in my 24 years at Greene Central High School.   He truly enjoys learning, and he comes to school every day to learn,” said Clark. “It feels good to know that your teachers notice your effort, and I’m thankful for that.  I know that all the hard work I’m doing right now will pay off in the future,” said Cisneros.

“I am in the Political Science Club in which I’ve had the chance to go to competitions, such as Model United Nations and Mock Trial.  I am also in the Spanish Club, where I get the chance to tutor Spanish students.  One of the clubs that I’m also active in is the ELL Club, which stands for English Language Learners Club.  Through this club we work to bring about the progress of the local Latin community.  This year I also joined the Gospel Glee Club and the Quiz Bowl Club,” said Cisneros.  Clark commented, “Jose spends a lot of time volunteering on the weekends.  He really enjoys helping other people.”

Cisneros is a member of his church’s youth group, which helps a lot during fundraisers and puts on two plays during the year. He also is a member of a dance team outside of school, Ballet Folklorico Espiritu Latino, meaning Latin Spirit Folk Dance Team. “This group is a non-profit group that works to share Mexican/Latin culture in North Carolina through dance. We dance for churches, hospitals, charity organizations’ fundraisers, and all types of festivals,” said Cisneros.  “I’ve been dancing in a Latin Folk dance team for almost eight years now.  This is my passion, and I hope to continue doing something like this in the future,” said Cisneros.

As a junior he is taking a demanding schedule which includes AP English Language and Composition, AP World History, AP Physics, and Honors Russian Literature. “He always treats other people with respect, and he gets along well with everyone,” said Clark.  His favorite quote is from Mahatma Gandhi: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” He would like to attend UNC-Chapel Hill. “I haven’t yet decided what I want to be, but I am interested in Journalism or International Relations,” stated Cisneros.  He is the son of  Jose Luis Cisneros and Maria Perez of Snow Hill.

Senior Danielle Dillane has been named Greene Central’s August Student of the Month by the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. The Greene County Chamber of Commerce aims to recognize a Student of the Month who is “an outstanding student who is outstanding in some way, either in the classroom, sports, etc. but is also a student that gives back to the community.”The Greene County Chamber of Commerce will be presenting Dillane with a certificate of award and a $25 Visa gift card. Dillane was nominated by Health Occupations Teacher and HOSA Advisor Lisa Wilson.”I nominated Danielle Dillane for outstanding achievement in and out of the classroom,” Wilson commented. “She is an excellent student and also a member of the varsity tennis team.” Academically/ Intellectually Gifted Teacher Donald L. Clark said, “Danielle Dillane is an absolutely wonderful young lady. It has been a pleasure to have her in my classes.”

Dillane is involved in many different clubs such as Health Occupations Students of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Spanish Club.
She is remaining active as a senior in HOSA club, serving this year as HOSA president. ” Its kind of scary because it is a really big club and more people look up to me,” said Dillane. Dillane has competed in district and state competitions, participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk for a Cure, blood drives, and canned food drives. Clark commented, “She has tremendous critical thinking skills, and she has developed into one of the best writers at our school. She has a genuine love of learning.” She continues to take a demanding schedule as a senior which includes AP English Language and Composition, AP Calculus, AP Physics and, online Honors Psychology .

Clark said, “Danielle sets very high standards for herself, and then she works hard to reach her goals. She avoids excuses and crutches and makes things happen.” She thinks that it is very important to give back to the community. “Everyone in the community is not as fortunate as others,” she stated. Dillane also thinks that it is extremely important for those who are fortunate to give back to those that are not. Dillane would like to attend N.C. State University. “I would like to be a meteorologist, and they have a great program,” stated Dillane. She is the daughter of Vincent and Wendy Dillane of Snow Hill.
