Spring is growing season.  May marks the beginning of the membership drive for the Greene County Chamber of Commerce.  In their second year of directing the chamber, Larry and Rebecca Pate, co-directors, look forward to continued growth in membership.  Last year’s goal of one hundred members was surpassed with 110 members.  The chamber hopes to add another 50 members this year.

The Pates are most appreciative of businesses, organizations, and individuals that have given support to the chamber.  Mr. Pate states, “With the support of our community we had a most successful first year.  Our businesses are determined to have a vibrant chamber that will be beneficial to the economic environment of our county.  They realize the importance of a chamber in community development and being a catalyst for business growth.”

Molly Murphrey, President of the Greene Chamber, is very positive about Greene County and its Chamber and says,  “ Last year we had a very active chamber year, but this year will even be more active.  Our new Ambassadors Program is going to enable our Chamber to take on additional projects and bring more visibility to our community and our businesses.  I strongly encourage all our county businesses and organizations to join together and support our Chamber.  Greene County is a great place to live, work, and play, and our Chamber can serve as a billboard for that message. ”

The Greene County Chamber of Commerce is a young chamber beginning in 2003.  It experienced some early success then struggled as the recession impacted the business community including the chamber.  The Pates, both retired educators, were persuaded to provide a new beginning for the Chamber.  Mrs. Pate says,” It has been a challenge, but we have had fantastic support from our business community.  We just need more of our businesses to step forward and join their Chamber.  We can build on early success, but we all have got to keep the ball rolling. We are very excited about our current membership drive and potential new members and the leadership they bring to our Chamber.”

Membership in the Greene County Chamber of Commerce is open to any business, organization, or individual that conduct business in Greene County.  Yearly investment ranges from $100 to $450.  For more information about becoming a Chamber member, contact the Chamber office in downtown Snow Hill at 747-8090 or email greenechamberdirector@centurylink.net or visit the Chamber website at www.greenechamber.com .
